Lead We are the voice of business in Harrisonburg & Rockingham County, and play a leadership role in the community’s economic well-being. The chamber also promotes the community and member businesses and is usually the first point of contact for visitors, tourist and future residents. Advocate We make your voice heard & your opinion known on public policy issues at the local, state, and federal levels.

10 Leadership Harrisonburg-Rockingham (LHR) is designed to expose current and aspiring leaders to the many different aspects of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County; educating them about the community’s past, present and future, including our strengths and opportunities that will help us build a better tomorrow. BOLD is an advanced leadership program established though the Chamber to provide future leaders (mentees) an opportunity to work with and interact with preeminent leaders (mentors) in our community. Business Smarts is a monthly breakfast seminar held on the second Friday of each month, from 7:30AM to 9:00AM at American National University, 1515 Country Club Road in Harrisonburg. Providing you with business advice from the best minds in the business, the series is a great opportunity to network over coffee. Business topics range from marketing and technology to finances.

12 The Ambassador Committee is a group of volunteers who support the Harrisonburg Rockingham Chamber of Commerce efforts to build and retain membership. They provide support and assistance at most of the Chamber functions. The Ambassadors are a vital liaison between the Chamber and the membership. They strive to encourage members to use the benefits available to them and to be active in their Chamber and community.

13 Shop local! This is one of the major goals of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce. We encourage consumers to shop locally and help our member businesses compete more effectively. The Member-2-Member program (M2M) encourages Chamber members to save money and help support our local economy by choosing Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce members for their business and personal needs. A Member-2-Member Discount card is available to Chamber members and their full-time employees. The M2M card entitles members to many valuable discounts, from restaurants and accommodations to local attractions. There is no fee to participate in the program. Members simply present their card at participating businesses to receive discounts on many products and services.

15 You’re not there to sell – Start developing relationships Make it a goal to make 2-3 new connections per event. When meeting new people, ask how YOU can help THEM. Follow up is key! LinkedIn, Twitter, Email, etc It takes EFFORT – keep coming to events It takes TIME – nothing happens immediately
