2 When and Where is Science Camp Prescott Pines Camp – 855 East Schoolhouse Gulch Road Prescott, AZ 86303 May 22-24 -leave @ 9am -return Friday about 3

3 What is Science Camp? 2 nights lodging, 6 meals, and 2 snacks Core classes support Arizona state standards for education. More than just your traditional Science Camp experience, the program offers an interdisciplinary approach to learning in the great outdoors.

4 Cost About $100 per child – Includes 6 meals, 2 snacks – Lodging for two night – Transportation to and from School

5 Cost/ Fundraising Tax Credit Donation to 6 th grade account through PTO- Apex Fun Run

6 Sixth Grade Science Camp Contract All students will be required to sign a contract in order to participate in the Science Camp learning experience. Science Camp is open to all sixth grade students but is not mandatory. Failure to complete the signed contract will be considered NON-PARTICIPATION

7 Sixth Grade Science Camp Contract Requirements: – Grades: a student's eligibility will be determined by academic progress, quality and completion of work – Behavior: Student’s are allowed no “in-school” or off campus” suspensions. Students behavior must be such as to pose a safety concern to others *Students who do not attend science camp will be expected to be in school those days and work, a class will be assigned to them.

8 Chaperones Ratio 1:5 6 Dads and 9 Moms Must abide by same rules as students and enforce camp rules and CUSD rules with students Will be in charge of a small group and help facilitate camp activities Stay with group in cabins

9 Chaperones Fingerprint clearance Tier III – Will hold a time at Haley to get fingerprinted (no cost) Tuesday, Dec. 18 th at 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. If you already have a fingerprint clearance card we will need a copy of it with a photo id.

10 Parent Chaperones Responsibilities You WILL need to say NO. Do you know where your children are. Keep meals to a dull roar. Leave it better than you found it. Lights out There will be NO pranks. Two’s Company It’s back to basics We know you know…. But… no smoking, no fire arms, air guns, fire crackers etc…

11 Camp Necessities What you should bring to camp – Sleeping bag – Pillow – Clothes, socks and underwear – Warm jacket, coat, or sweatshirt – Pajamas or something to sleep in (something warm) – Towel – Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, washcloth, brush – Water bottle Optional – Inexpensive camera – Day pack – Hat – Sunscreen – Chap stick – Flashlight

12 Camp Necessities DO NOT BRING – Radio, iPods, video games or any electronic devices – Cell phones – Lighters, matches, alcohol – Food, candy, gum – Knives or anything that might be considered a weapon – Make-up, perfume, fragrant lotion – Valuable jewelry, toys, or any item of great personal or monetary value

13 Science Camp Activities The Secret Life of Trees: Students will learn to be amateur botanists and learn about trees both inside and out. Finally, they will play The Great Chemistry Race and act out the process of photosynthesis. Guided Hike: Easy 4 mile hike to Goldwater Lake and back. Low Rope Challenge: Team Quest Challenge. Survival Course: Learn the basics of surviving in the wilderness. Students will learn how to start a fire, find water and food and build a shelter. Compound Archery Course: Learn the basics of archery.. This course is certified by the Arizona Game and Fish Department.

14 Science Camp Activities Owl Pellet Study Orienteering: Because your GPS might run out of batteries. Students will learn how to operate a simple compass and use their new skills to navigate a course through camp. Zip Line: Forensic Science: Who dun’ it? Students will learn the basics of fingerprint identification and ink chromatography methods. Heat Transfer: It’s a dry heat. Students will learn the basics of heat energy transfer while making ice cream. Trebuchet Toss:

15 Science Camp Activities Evening Activity Options Hayride: Night Hike: Pirate Treasure Hunt: Gangs of pirates (i.e. cabins of students) will embark on an epic adventure around camp, following clues to find the treasure. Skit Night Campfire and s'mores Human Foosball Tournament: On the final morning, we will gather at the human foosball court and the teams will face off, grand championship style (weather permitting). Challenge the Champ:
