REAL Maths In Swallows Class Baking means you are measuring and reading scales We have also changed measurements from one unit to another and converted them into decimals

Weight / Mass: 1000 g = 1 kg 500g = ½ kg or 0.5 kg 250g = ¼ kg or 0.25kg 750g = ¾ kg or 0.75kg How many grams in 8oz? A medium bag of pasta is 500g. How much does a bag of crisps weigh?

If each tray bakes 12 cakes, how many trays do we need to feed 48 hungry children? How many 12s in 48?

100 sprinkles to decorate each cake. How many sprinkles needed to decorate all 48 cakes? Remember the place value rule for x100. Count in 3s to fill the tray 3x4=12

Capacity: 1000 ml = 1 litre 500ml = ½ litre 250ml = ¼ litre 750ml = ¾ litre How many pints in a litre? A coke can holds 330ml What does 4litres of milk look like? Change the litres to decimals

Christmas baking We made the chocolate truffles and the boxes that we put them in.

Constructing nets to make 3D boxes

www.visuallessons.com 3D Shapes 3D shapes are difficult to see on a 2D screen, but we’ll have a go! Click on a shape to reveal its name. A cuboid. A cube A cylinder A triangular prism Square based pyramid A hexagonal prism.

3D Shapes: Faces, edges and vertices. Faces. This cube will have 6 faces. Edges. This is where faces meet. This cube has 12 edges. Vertices. These are corners of a 3D shape. This cube has 8 vertices.

Can you fill in the missing parts of this table? Click on the ? to reveal the answer… Name of ShapeImageNo. of faces No. of edges No. of vertices Cuboid6128 Square based Pyramid 585 Cylinder320 Triangular Prism596 Hexagonal Prism81812 ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

www.visuallessons.com Net Shapes We can make 3D shapes from 2D net shapes. This net shape will make a cube.

Shape: Perimeter = distance all the way around a 2D shape= cm Area = Space a 2D shape takes up= cm² Area of rectangles = lengthxwidth = cm² Regular = sides the same length, internal angles all the same Parallel = lines which run equal distance from each other and never meet Perpendicular = lines that meet at a right angle to each other What is the difference between a 2D and 3D shape? 2D shapes can also be : reflected, rotated and translated How many sides does a triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon and hexagon have? How many 3D shapes can you name?

Length: 10mm = 1cm 100cm = 1 metre 1000m = 1km 500m = ½ km or 0.5 km 250m = ¼ km or 0.25 km 750m = ¾ km or 0.75 km How many kms in 20 miles?

Shape, space and measure Shape, space and measure questions often involve a word problem which has to be answered by a one/two step calculation. John’s water bottle holds 1 litre of water. It already has 350ml in it. He wants to fill it from the tap. Each time he presses the tap 150ml of water comes out. How many times will he have to press the tap to fill his bottle?

Working it out

We show our working to prove our understanding

If we make a mistake we can go back and check

WELL DONE Swallow Class Remember to revise names and properties of 2D/3Dshapes units of measure converting units of measure written calculation techniques
