This dimension of wellness involves the preparing for work in which one will gain personal satisfaction and find enrichment in one’s life through work Occupational wellness is relevant throughout our lives, encompassing academic study, paid work and volunteerism It encompasses a wide range of issues, from effective handling of work stress to finding the job of our dreams Occupational Wellness is one of the interconnected eight dimensions of wellness Occupational wellness is also the ability to achieve a balance between work and leisure in a way that promotes health, a sense of personal satisfaction and is (for most people) financially rewarding 3

Wellness and Healthy Lifestyle: OCCUPATIONAL WELLNESS: LECTURE 7 Importance of Occupational Wellness Recognizing personal satisfaction and enrichment in one’s life through work and leisure in a way that promotes health Doing exactly what one wants in life while being comfortable with one’s future plans It encompasses a wide range of issues, from effective handling of work stress to finding the job of our dreams It allows us to learn how to work through issues in the work place, aim for that promotion or completely change careers 5

Wellness and Healthy Lifestyle: OCCUPATIONAL WELLNESS: LECTURE 7 SIGNS OF OCCUPATIONAL WELLNESS Learning how to manage your money and establishing a personal budget. Not living beyond your means. Learning to not let money be the driving force of your life. Donate some of your money, if possible, to a cause you believe in. Make a plan to pay back your student loans. Not getting into credit card debt. Try to pay off the entire balance each month to avoid interest. Thinking long term - set up a savings account. 7

Wellness and Healthy Lifestyle: OCCUPATIONAL WELLNESS: LECTURE 7 IMPROVING OCCUPATIONAL WELLNESS Don’t settle, keep motivated, and work towards what you want Increase your knowledge and skills to accomplish your goals Find the benefits and positives in your current job Enjoy what you do, do what you enjoy Create connections with your co-workers Write out goals, create a plan to execute them, and then start working on your plan Look for something new and/or talk to a career counsellor if you feel stuck or unhappy 8
