20. EFEC in collaboration with Rhimal Design, Istituto Europeo di Design Centro Ricerche (CRIED), the Industrial Modernization Centre (IMC) organized a second workshop in early 2010. The workshop was led by 4 international designers, Dodo Arslan, Gumdesign group, Pierandrei associates, and Lucy Salamanca. The products/prototypes came out were exhibited at Furnex 2010 and +20 Egypt design from June 2010. 2 nd Design + Industry Workshop 2009 - 2010

21. Coinciding with Furnex 2010, EFEC launched “+20 Egypt Design” project within the amazing frame of Elmuiz Street Houses. Offered to the citizens and visitors “THE FIRST CITY-SYSTEM EVENT FOR DESIGN” with five complementary essences Exhibition, Services, Culture, Entertainment, Collateral events. The event witnessed the participation of Local exhibitors, international brands & collaboration with local universities. 25. The first D+I competition in Egypt. Call for participation to all designers in Egypt. Juries to select products for prototyping. Winning products presented in Furnex 2012. Gold awards exhibited their prototypes in SaloneSattelite 2013.

27. After the success of the first D+I competition, EFEC launched the second version and received triple the number of applicants. Call for participation wasn’t addressing only furniture but also lighting, marble and textile items. The winning products were presented in The Furniture Show event 2014 Gold winners exhibited their prototypes in SaloneSattelite 2014.

28. Facts & Figures Started 2004 reaching its 8 th session in 2012. Egypt's International Furniture & Furnishings Trade Fair Held at the Cairo International Convention Center Total exhibition area 25,000 sqm www.furnexegypt.com Figures of 2012 Session: o 75,000 Domestic visitors o 800 International visitors o 225 exhibitor including : 108 furniture company, 32 Home Textiles company, in addition to other companies including products ranges as Lighting, Marble, Flooring & Handicrafts.

30. The first of its kind “temporary showroom” pop up event in Egypt from 6March to 19April 2014. 30 companies specialized in home furnishings and accessories showed their products at Citystars Heliopolis mall for 45 consecutive days on a gross area of 9,000 sqm.

About EFEC  The Council was established by a ministerial decree from the Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade as an independent body to support the furniture sector.  Our ultimate goal is increasing the Egyptian furniture exports with a clear strategy for the growth of the industry coordinating with various supporting entities locally & internationally: Contributing to competitiveness Economic growth and job creation Awareness of the importance of design in developing the industry Promoting the Egyptian furniture industry globally through exhibitions and trade missions. The plan includes organizing training programs, seminars, exhibitions, trade missions, workshops and design competitions.  EFEC is also providing various services for international buyers & investors interested and wish to buy and/or invest in the Egyptian furniture industry: Match-making with appropriate and qualified Egyptian manufacturers organizing visits to Egyptian furniture factories.
