5. Describe the design constraints of cell phone batteries Old mobiles - new mobiles - future mobiles Size, Weight, Heat, Cost, Environmental issues, Charging Delivered using PowerPoint with pictures of new and old phones and future developments

6. Identify factors affecting battery consumption Q&A session – What are the functions of the mobile? – Which functions consume more power? Students write answers on the board Students are put in groups of 4 and use ideas from the board to prioritize power consumption into top 5

7. Measure voltage and current when the cell phone is being used for different modes and functions Groups of 4 students will use their own mobile phones with power adapters and volt and current meters to measure the voltage and current of the 5 functions that they selected as the most power consuming Use excel to chart the results of the measurements to confirm their hypothesis

8. Explain methods to increase battery life Write an overview report of at least 1,000 words concisely describing issues faced in maximizing battery life of 3G mobile phones.
