Copenhagen Protocol Glenn and Al3xi

What is it? The Copenhagen protocol is a political agreement that came to fruition in 2009 at the UN Climate Change Conference. It was was signed by Australia, India, The United Kingdom, Peoples Republic of China, Brazil, Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas. It was made to reduce emissions, invest in clean energy technology and practices, and help people adapt to the effects of climate change.

Why does this problem occur? (Causes) 2 main classifications for climate change Internal Forcing Mechanisms Ocean Variablilty: Distributes heat by storing heat in ocean Life: Affects climate through role in carbon and water cycles (i.e global cooling, glaciation

Why does this problem occur? (Causes) Cont. External Mechanisms: Orbital variations: slight changes in earth’s orbit lead to changes in sunlight received from the sun Solar output: Solar fluctuations from the sun alter our climate by varying the levels of heat energy the earth receives Human Influences: Thru various CO2 emissions, humans weaken the ozone layer thus allowing more heat to enter thru the suns rays

Where is this occurring? The Copenhagen Protocol is an agreement made by all of the United Nations and thus, any of its members must abide by it In regards to climate change, this is a worldwide occurrence however some places that are more severely affected are: In regards to climate change, this is a worldwide occurrence however some places that are more severely affected are:CambodiaVietnamBangladesh Great Barrier Reef

How can it be controlled? Based on many of the criticisms there is a plethora of ways it could have been controlled better. First of all it wasn’t legally binding, meaning that countries who signed it didn’t have to actually do anything. Furthermore, it didn’t have a target goal to work toward and because it was only drafted by 5 countries, it didn’t address all the countries concerns
