Date: October 2, 2014 Topic: Microsoft Program File Menu Notes: Defining the Commands on the File Menu The six buttons under the File tab are Save, Save As, Open, Close, Options, and Exit. Save will simply save your current word document. If you haven't already saved it, it will allow you to choose where to save it and what to name it. Save As you can either save a brand new document, OR you can save one word document as another one. By clicking Save As, a browse window will appear and it will allow you to re-name it and save it in your desired location. Open will allow you to open word documents that you have worked with previously. ***NOTE:When you click Open and start browsing through folders and the like, Word 2010 will ONLYdisplay word documents, and nothing else. Close will the word document you are currently working with, but it will not shut down Word 2010. If you haven't done anything with the document, it will simply close it without warning. If you did do something with the document, however, it will ask if you wish to save the document or not. Options simply opens up the options window, which was explained a bit previously. Exit will completely shut down Word 2010, and ask if you want to save your current word document if anything was done to it. Now that you have all this knowledge, you should easily understand everything that you will need to know that resides under the File tab. 6

Date: October 3, 2014 Topic: Printing a Document Notes: There are 3 printers in the 6 th grade computer lab. At least two of them need to be on your computer. (1 black and white 1 color) Once you have them on your computer, you can follow the instructions below. The Print tab in the Backstage view is the place to go to make sure you are printing what you want. 8

Clicking the File tab displays the Backstage view. Click the Print tab to print a document, change print-related settings, and to automatically display a preview of your document. Click the Print button to print your document. This dropdown shows the currently selected printer. Clicking the dropdown will display other available printers. These dropdown menus show currently selected Settings. Rather than just showing you the name of a feature, these dropdown menus show you what the status of a feature is and describes it. This can help you figure out if you want to change the setting from what you have. Follow these steps to print a document. Click the File tab, and then click Print. TIP To go back to your document and make changes before you print it, click the File tab. The properties for your default printer automatically appear in the first section. When the properties for your printer and document appear the way that you want them to, click Print to print the document. NOTE To change the properties for your printer, under the printer name, click Printer Properties. 9

The shift key is always pressed by the pinky finger opposite to the one hitting the other key. When you go to press a shift key, you may have to move your hand slightly to reach it, but try to get there mainly by stretching your pinky finger, allowing your remaining fingers to keep as much contact with the home row as possible. Try not to rotate or bend your wrists, as this will throw your home row orientation off and cause you to lose your grounding. When the caps lock key is enabled, the keyboard types "LIKE THIS" and when it is disabled, the keyboard types "like this.... When caps lock is enabled the caps lock indicator will illuminate. Capitalizing Letters and Using Alternate Characters 12 Student Notes:

The Num Lock key is a toggle key, meaning that it changes the current mode. If the numeric keypad is already locked in numeric mode, pressing the Num Lock key releases it. 13 Student Notes:
