3 50 Years of Senior Services!

4 History  Since 1963  Began with five community organizations  1973, the Tulare High School Adult Education  1973, the Tulare Woman’s Clubhouse  1974, Parks and Community Services Department applied to the California Department on Aging, Title VII Nutrition Grant, the Older Americans Act had been enacted in 1965  1975, second Meal Site - Claude Meitzenheimer Community Center  January 31, 1991, the 11,000 square foot, $1.25 million Tulare Senior Community Center was opened for business  Major Contributors: $90,000 grant Tulare received from the Senior Center Bond Act Project sponsored by the Agency on Aging Louis Rich, a business unit of Philip Morris Companies, Inc. and the nation’s number-one brand of turkey, contributed $95,000 to the center

8 The Senior Center offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy a nutritious and delicious meal catered by Elaine’s Table among old and new friends. Lunch is served in our dining room, Monday thru Friday at 11:30 am. Meals are available by reservation to anyone 60 years of age and older, requested contribution is $3. The Home Delivered meal program offers temporary or long term service to those that are 60 years of age and older, home bound, and meet other eligibility requirements.

9 PROGRAM The home delivery program was established in 1974 Serves seniors who have medical conditions that keep them homebound and unable to prepare their own meals. Participants tend to be less healthy, more functionally impaired, and may have no other resources  50 meals per day, 250 per week, 13,000 per year

11 Our Volunteers!  Over 100 volunteers  10,000 hours donated each year  Volunteers, Senior Citizens Adults, HS & College students, interns, retired couples, unemployed persons looking for something to stay busy and connected with the community  Very Enthusiastic, challenge- seeking, goal-oriented they want to make a positive difference in our community
