Strain= overstretching of a muscle near a joint 2. Sprain= twisting of a joint leading to swelling of the muscle, ligaments, tendons, blood vessels, and nerves 3. Tendonitis= inflammation of a tendon due to repeated athletic activity

5. Muscle Diseases TETANUS MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY 1. Caused by a bacterium 2. Causes muscles to lock into place (tetanic contraction) 3. Cured with antibiotics 4. Prevented with vaccination 1. Broad term applied to a group of disorders characterized by progressive degeneration and weakening of muscles 2. As muscle fibers die, they are replaced by fat and connective tissue 3. Duschenne muscular dystrophy= most common form (genetic)
