Zamenhof thought they would learn a new language. He called his language ‘’Esperanto’’. Although he had to work during the day as an eye doctor, he used all his free time to make his new language. He spent 15 years on his first book about Esperanto although it was only 14 pages long. Esperanto is very easy to learn. At one time, many people were interested in learning Esperanto. They believed it was the answer to many of the world’s problems. Esperantists – people who speak Esperanto – met and spoke Esperanto together. They even wrote books in the language. Although there are many good things about Esperanto, it has never become an international language and perhaps it never will. So many people speak English in business, travel and education that there is now no need for a new language.
