1 OLLI @ Clemson OLLI Presentation Template Instructions Important: Before starting to use this template, print out the following nine instruction pages to use as a step-by-step reference guide. How To: Print PowerPoint Slides 1.Click the File tab, and then click Print. 2.Under Settings, do one of the following: 1.To print all slides, click Print All Slides. 2.To print only the slide that is currently displayed, click the Down Arrow, then click Current Slide. 3.To print specific slides by number, enter your custom range of slides, then enter a list of individual slides, a range, or both. Note : Use commas to separate the numbers, with no spaces. For example: 1,3,5-12.( Note: Enter 1-9 to print the twelve instruction pages.) 3.When you finish making your selections, click Print.

2 OLLI @ Clemson OLLI Presentation Template Instructions Saving Your Presentation This document is saved as a file type PowerPoint Template which enables you to reuse this template as often as you would like. When you create your actual presentation file you must save it as a file type PowerPoint Presentation, not as a PowerPoint Template file type. How To: Save a PowerPoint Presentation The first time you save your presentation 1.Click the File tab, then click Save As. 2.Enter a unique and identifiable name in the File Name dialog box. 3.From the Save as type: dialog box, select PowerPoint Presentation. 4.Click Save at the bottom right of the active window. Each subsequent time you save your presentation 1.Click the Save icon..

3 OLLI @ Clemson Use of this template should simplify the development of your PowerPoint slides and ensure use of the optimum fonts, colors and formats for an effective visual presentation. The template contains the following slide formats: Course title Course Introduction Two-column presentation of text and/or other visual object(s) One-column presentation of text and/or other visual object(s) Unformatted slide for you to customize Course Summary As you develop your slides, choose the most appropriate format to fit the content you are presenting. Use the following guidelines for each slide. Use concise bullets—phrases and keywords, not complete sentences. Use a maximum of 6 bullet points per slide and 6 words per bullet Include high-quality photographs and other media; avoid using common clip art and cartoons of questionable taste.. 4 OLLI @ Clemson OLLI Presentation Template Instructions Even though this template will simplify the development of your presentation, there are some PowerPoint basics that you must know. How To: Add Additional Slides 1.Click the New Slide down arrow, then select the appropriate format from the displayed dialog box for your next slide How To: Rearrange the order of your slides 1.Click the thumbnail of the slide that you want to move, then drag it to the location that you want.

5 OLLI @ Clemson OLLI Presentation Template Instructions A text box is an object that lets you enter text anywhere in your file. How To add a text box 1.Click the Insert tab, then click Text Box. 2.Click in the presentation, and then drag to draw the text box the size that you want. 3.To add text to a text box, click inside the text box, then type or paste your text. Create a bulleted or numbered list using the Paragraph section of the Home tab. Move back and forth from one level of indentation to the other using the Paragraph section of the Home tab. 4.If desired, you can format your text box (add background colors or outlines) by clicking Format, then selecting the desired formatting element.

6 OLLI @ Clemson OLLI Presentation Template Instructions You can insert a variety of objects such as photographs and graphic elements such as lines, arrow and shapes to your presentation. Some of the template formats have embedded icons that you can use to insert these objects. Just roll your mouse over the icons then click the one you wish to use. Follow these instructions if your template format does not include these icons. How To Insert a picture from a file 1.Click Insert, then click Picture. 2.Navigate to the desired image, then click on it and click Insert. How To Insert arrows, lines and other shapes 1.Click Insert, then click Shapes. 2.Click the desired Shape, then click the desired location on your slide. 3.To change the fill color or outline of your shape, click the Shape, then click Format under the Drawing Tools tab.

7 OLLI @ Clemson OLLI Presentation Template Instructions Some of the template pages have explanatory sections to guide you as you use that specific format. Always remember to delete those explanations prior to completing your slide. You also must delete any template slides that you are not using in your presentation. How To Delete a section of your slide 1.Click the outer edge of the section (text box, picture, shape, etc.) until you see a border drawn around the section. 2.Click Delete. How To Delete an entire slide 1.On the left pane that contains the Outline and Slides tabs, click the Slides tab to display thumbnails of your presentation slides. 2.Right-click the thumbnail that you want to delete, then Delete Slide.. Note: You can also use these thumbnails to quickly locate and navigate to a specific slide. This can be especially helpful during class discussions.

8 OLLI @ Clemson OLLI Presentation Template Instructions Before you finalize your presentation, always review it for accuracy and completeness. Run a Slide Show to view how the final presentation will look. Whenever possible, run the slide show in your classroom and view it on the projected screen to see exactly what your students will see. How To Run a Slide Show 1.To start your show from the first slide, click the Slide Show tab, then click From Beginning on the left of the Start Slide Show group. 2.Click anywhere in slide to advance to the next slide. 3.Note: You cannot edit your slides in Slide Show mode. To stop your slide show, click the esc (escape) button on your keyboard. 4.To restart your slideshow from where you stopped, click the Slide Show tab again, then click From Current Slide in the Start Slide Show group to continue. 5.You can also right-click and select Next or Previous to navigate through your slides.

9 OLLI @ Clemson OLLI Presentation Template Instructions Final Notes: For instructions on tasks not included in these instruction pages, click the Help icon. Always remember to save your work frequently throughout the development process. Starting with Slide 10, look through the next slides to familiarize yourself with each format before developing your presentation. 11 Course Introduction  Topic 1  Topic 2  Topic 3 Offer your students a brief overview or “road map” of what you will be covering in your class. Highlight “Topic 1 etc. and replace that placeholder text with your topics. Important Note: Delete all explanatory text and graphics from each format page before entering your content.

12 OLLI @ Clemson Use this slide format for placing text, pictures and/or other objects side-by-side. To insert a picture or other object, roll your mouse over these icons and click on the relevant type. Click on the dotted lines and drag your mouse to change the relative sizes of your page segments.

14 Use this slide format to customize your own page design. Click the menu to display several options for placing text, pictures, media clips and other objects into your presentation.
