4 The team 1 Center, 2 wing men, 2 defense men and 1 goalie per team at a time on the ice

5 Equipment needed Jock and Jockstrap Shin pads Socks leggings Hockey skates Ice hockey shorts Shoulder pads Elbow pads Gloves Jersey Helmet Hockey stick Hockey bag Mouth guard

6 Jock strap and long socks or leggings This one is pretty obvious, it protects the region between your legs. Socks, the big ones that cover your shin pads. Most people apply some sock tape to these to keep the socks and the shin guards stay up on your legs

7 Hockey skates If you are playing ice hockey, you will definitely need a pair of ice skates. You should have them sharpened prior to using them for every game

8 Hockey stick Hockey sticks come in many different forms. Wood, fiberglass, or composite. Prices can range from as low as $10 to a couple hundred dollars. If you are playing forward, you will want your stick to be between your chin and your nose

9 Ice hockey shorts Not to be confused with the shorts that you would wear under your gear, ice hockey shorts go over top of your jock and garter belt and have padding to protect you from shots, slashes and other hits.

10 Shoulder and elbow pads Shoulder pads are similar to shoulder pads worn in football however they are much smaller. They protect the majority of your upper body including your shoulders, upper back and chest. Elbow pads are simple pads that slip over your elbow

11 jersey Your jersey goes over your shoulder pads and elbow pads and prevents your gear from falling off mid game

12 Hockey bag A hockey bag is basically a large bag that you put all your equipment in. You pretty much have no choice in the matter unless you happen to be an octopus and have eight arms to carry all your gear

13 Mouth guard A mouth guard is seldom ever mandatory however teeth are not cheap and taking a puck to the teeth can very easily know your teeth out. The $10 investment is definitely something to consider buying

14 Helmet A helmet is a definite necessity in hockey, if you fall, you are going to want to have something to protect your head from concussion

15 Penalties charging holding icing the puck slashing cross checking boarding delayed call of penalty interference high sticking tripping hooking misconduct

16 Charging is a minor penalty in ice hockey. Rule 41 of the NHL rulebook dictates that charging "shall mean the actions of a player or goalkeeper who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check an opponent in any manner. A 'charge' may be the result of a check into the boards, into the goal frame or in open ice."

17 Holding is the act of impeding or obstructing an opponent's progress. Rule 533

18 Icing the puck and slashing in ice hockey occurs when a player shoots the puck across at least two red lines in ice hockey is a penalty called when an offending player swings their hockey stick at an opposing player, regardless of contact. slashing

23 hooking Hooking in ice hockey is the act of impeding or obstructing an opponent's progress
