ENGINEERING STAFF

GLOBAL DEMAND FOR ENGINEERS Population growth and infrastructure squeeze Globalisation, urbanisation and industrialisation of China & India Shortage of engineers in Australia, and more globally New industries – ICT, nanotechnology, biologics Starting salaries currently averaging $65,000 p.a. but can start at up to $100,000 p.a.

WHAT IS ENGINEERING?

The application of science to create useful products and services for the community within economic, environmental, social and resource constraints. Chemistry, maths, physics and biology are the enabling sciences for engineering. Engineering is the key discipline which enables society to gain value out of science.

21 ST CENTURY CHALLENGES Adapting to Climate Change Provide Clean Energy Provide Clean Water Capture and Sequester Carbon Dioxide Heal the World Feed the World Safeguard the World Restore and Improve Urban Infrastructure

WHAT DO ENGINEERS DO? Design, build, operate and maintain: potable water supply, electricity supply cars, trains and airplanes road, rail and air networks, mines Create new ways to access space new materials tsunami and earthquake warning systems Manufacture consumer goods like…. toothpaste, timtams and suncream
