1 B ACKGROUND TO PARADES S TEVEN J ONES Slides in this talk present independent research commissioned by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) under its Programme Grants for Applied Research funding scheme (RP-PG-0407-10389 & RP-PG-0606-1086). Further support was received from primary care trusts, mental health trusts, the Mental Health Research Network and Comprehensive Local Research Networks in North West England. 3 W ELCOME It is great to be able to present the outcomes of our work across the PARADES programme Initial work on the grant application began in 2006/2007 Development of the five streams was driven by: Service user priorities Key evidence gaps Lack of psychological therapy options for bipolar

4 D EVELOPMENT Liz Pitt Martina Kilbride Consultation panels Importance of formal involvement of service users at all levels of the programme as: Grant holders Researcher Therapy facilitators Advisor

5 D EVELOPMENT Consultation also confirmed Need for help with relapse Need for integrated help with anxiety and substance issues Concern about suicide and self harm Concern about who makes treatment decisions This led to five streams we are reporting on today We feel that anchoring the research in people’s lived experience has led to relevant and impactful work We hope that you agree!

10 L EGACY FROM PARADES T RAINING Service User: 10 service users trained & delivered group therapy (Ped / PS) NHS Trust Staff: 16 staff trained to deliver group therapy (Ped / PS) 4 staff trained to deliver Alcohol & Bipolar Intervention (284 hours) Academic Staff 3 staff trained to deliver Anxiety and Bipolar Intervention (249 hours) Successes: NHS Trust rollout, BP UK support group, 3 x PhDs, 1 x MPhil, 6 x Clinical Psychology Doctorate
