Project Study Building The Trail

On September 19 th, Avery Ritter, David Madsen, Sam Marlo, James Laird, Ryan Mee and Dillon Kelly with Mr. Les Greear, spent three hours cutting, digging and pulling blackberries bushes out of the way to make a trail

After David, Avery, Sam, Dillon, Ryan and James dug out the area to build a rough trail, they removed large logs to build the outline of the trail. David Madsen removing a big log for the trail

After six of the guys in our class set the out- line for our trail, we all helped out to slow down erosion and the growth of invasive plants like Himalayan Blackberries and Canary Reed Grass by spreading hay provided by Fish First. James Laird spreading hay along the trail.

Once the rough trail was set and our base for the RSI hayed, we gathered all the fallen logs at the end of the trail. We hope to one day use them to create steps in the trail and rustic benches to enhance our salmon restoration learning station. David Madsen and Avery Ritter gather large logs.

We then started getting ready to put in our RSI, (Remote Site Incubator) also known as an egg box. Our plan was to use the flow of water from above the waterfall to our RSI-stationed at the base of our trail. Dayna Lynch, Cj Hines, Avery Ritter and David Madsen filling sand bags for the pipeline for RSI.

After all our hard work getting the trail filled in, we finally got our RSI built and set into our trail and site at Brezee Creek. Thanks to Mr. Les Greear. Next came the eggs Mr. Les Greear, Sam Marlo, James Laird, Ryan Mee and Matt Jordan observing our new RSI at Brezee Creek.

After installing the RSI, we ran into some small leaking problems. Sam thought digging a trench to route the primary leak away from our egg box station and back into the creek would be our best bet. So we dug a trench for the excess water to flow back into Brezee Creek. Cj Hines, Sam Marlo, and Avery Ritter digging a trench.

Our next problem occurred when Clark County was struck by record breaking freezing weather. The expanding and contracting of the pipes when frozen solid for days, resulted in a few broken pipes and split couplers. Once everything thawed, we made the necessary repairs to our pipeline. James Laird, Joe Biehl, and David Madsen fixing the pipeline that broke during the ice and snow storm

Once we finished fixing our pipeline on Feb. 2 nd, we began to ready our site and egg box (RSI) for delivery of our eggs. On February 11 th, our 1,000 Coho eggs were delivered by WA State Dept. of Fish and Wildlife’s Jim Byrne Coho eggs in our egg box

The End Product The End Product!
