2 Mathematics Education in China! Math 430: International Comparative Mathematics Education Seminar (3 credits) What is “Math”? What does it mean to “Do Math”? How do people learn math? How should math be taught? How is math education different in US and China? teaching philosophy and methods, teacher training, math curriculum, cultural attitudes Field trips to Chinese schools to observe math classes Prepare and teach a math lesson to Chinese students

4 What Will We Do? Four days of class at UW Oshkosh (May 13-16). Three week trip to China (May 17- June 6). Two weeks at Zhejiang International Studies University Class discussions led by UWO faculty Guest lectures by ZISU faculty Field trips to local schools Teach math lessons at Hangzhou Foreign Language School Weekends of sightseeing in Shanghai and Ningbo 1 week tour in the North of China including Beijing and the Great Wall
