The biodiversity found on Earth today consists of many millions of animal and plant species, which is the product of nearly 3,5 billion years of evolution. (Wikipedia, s.v. Biodiversity, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biodiversity)

Linnean classification system, developed in the 18th century, is the basis of the modern zoological and botanical classification and of the naming system for species. (Wikipedia, s.v. Taxonomy, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxonomyhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxonomy) BHL uses taxonomy as a global and common subject-based classification. In DC subject element taxonomies attempt to completely describe all of the terms in a field, as well as the relationship between the terms, supplying a unique access point.
