7 Schemes The basic scheme infrastructure was laid down in the 1950’s and 60’s It was based on the credit and charge cards It’s worked well but is not 100% suitable for new innovations and partnerships Needs to carry more than just payment messages Some items need to go the other way e.g. Issuer to Acquirer When it was only Banks the set relationships worked but its not only banks

8 Software Much of the software we use is 10, 20 even 30 years or older Built originally for credit card markets using magnetic stripe But now: Debit Pre-paid Contactless Mobile Unbanked Needs to reflect what we have now Chip allows us to have many different applications outside payments on the same chip Different application owners

9 Partnerships Before it was banks with retailers, telco's, processors etc: as customers and suppliers Now these and many other market areas can become competitors or partners Retailers Telco’s and Mobile Operators Remittance processors like Western Union Processors Governments Etc: It needs a new approach to their requirements and the potential for profits it brings

10 Markets In the past the traditional markets was anyone who was Banked Higher Net worth Low Risk But that market is now well known and well penetrated and to expand we have to consider Un-banked Under-banked Migrant Workers Higher Risk This is a huge market and one that must be addressed
