2 Overview Every year, nearly one million individuals become U.S. citizens. They must pass a test in American history and civics as part of the process. The test includes 100 questions about the structure of the U.S. government as well as basic questions about history and geography. When citizenship applicants take the test, they are asked to answer only ten questions from the total list, yet in order to prepare, they must be familiar with all 100.
