3 Relevance of the Foundation Because I have sat for 13 years where you are sitting this morning, I can identify somewhat with you and your interests. There’s a very important question to ask: “What relevance does RIF have to your life and with your involvement here?” Each one of us joined RI for important reasons: the networking factor, the social factor, and the community- interest factor. However, we hear many appeals here. Every time someone presents a project at our weekly meetings, we each need to step back and ask ourselves some questions about its relevance.

4 Relevance Checker (1) Is this appeal founded on values that I hold dear? (2) Is project well administered, and does it actually carry out the mission it established? (3) Does it help me reach out to situations that I cannot reach except in this way? (4) Does this appeal to me? And finally, (5) Is it a good way for me to invest my bucks and demonstrate who I am as a caring human being in my needy world?

5 Introduction The Rotary Foundation has an excellent history and track record. It is well established, and has drawn involvement from tens of thousands of Rotarians. I find myself attracted to it because it meets my criteria for relevance for me and how it envisions meeting major needs of our world today. I hope that this presentation feels especially relevant to you.

6 Introduction Gerry and I present this program today with high hopes that you as individuals and as a group will find this on-going project of the Foundation to be one of the most meaningful things we do at Rotary.
