2. Slide 2 What is PDF Printing? >Customers who want to limit or eliminate the amount of printing done during normal daily operations from their existing Passport printer. PDF printing is a valid alternative. >A new printer driver is installed called a PDF printer driver that becomes the default printer for the store. Every time a report is printed, this printer driver converts the report from HTML to a pdf format and stores it at a desired location.

3. Slide 3 First Some Warnings from Gilbarco >Gilbarco Veeder-Root does not officially support the use of remote printers but we do recognize that many customers are looking for printing alternatives and this may be one that is selected. >The use of full encryption is strongly recommended if a customer decides to print any secure reports to PDF format. > Do not install any type of PDF reader software on the Passport application. Passport currently uses Adobe for the presentation of secure reports and the addition of another reader could jeopardize this feature.

5. Slide 5 How Does This Work (An Example) >For demonstration purposes, we selected Bullzip PDF Printer and placed it on a Passport system in our lab. >First you must install the application on the Passport server similar to any Printer driver not supported by the Passport system.

6. Slide 6 How Does This Work (An Example) >Under the General Tab you can configure items such as the pathway for the file that will be created and the unique naming convention for these print files. >We used date and time stamps to differentiate the report.

7. Slide 7 Configuring the PDF Printer >Under the Dialogs Tab you can determine if the store operator will see any type of Dialog message that allows them to choose a file name. (We chose never)

8. Slide 8 Setting up PDF Security >The Security tab allows you to password protect and encrypt the documents that are created.. >Gilbarco will not be managing these passwords so if chosen, customer must maintain this information.

9. Slide 9 Finding the documents >When printed, the documents are converted to PDF format and stored in a directory of your choosing. >We used the XMLGateway/BOOutBox directory since many backoffice PCs already share this directory. Please Note : The use a shared directory could present a security risk if secured reports are placed in this directory. Please take all the necessary precautions including full encryption.

10. Slide 10 Printing the documents >If you select any of the PDF generated reports, they will be presented through a PDF viewer. >They can then be printed to an attached printer if necessary. >The printer could be the printer used with the backoffice PC.
