7 Approved programmes for social workers in England The first year of visits to social work pre-registration programmes is now complete A review will be undertaken to highlight any key themes from this first year of visits (published November 2013) 26 education providers have confirmed the closure of 62 programmes In total we will now be undertaking 85 visits reviewing 235 social work pre-registration programmes between 2012-2015

8 Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPS) We expect to publish the criteria for approving AMHP programmes in England by September 2013 The most recent draft of the criteria was considered by our Education and Training Committee in June 2013 We will undertake 21 visits reviewing 27 programmes over a period of two academic years from September 2013 to June 2015 Programmes delivered as part of post graduate Masters or as stand alone modules: consideration regarding clarity of awards

9 Review of operational activities relating to ODP programmes 1 September 2010 – 30 November 2012 Review follows the introduction of new curriculum by College of Operating Department Practitioners’ (CODP) in April 2011 Curriculum recommends move from Dip. HE level to an Honours Bachelor Degree (England, Northern Ireland and Wales) or a Bachelor Degree (Scotland) We currently approve 33 programmes, four of which are Honours Bachelor Degrees and one a Bachelor Degree An analysis report can be found on our website: www.hpc-uk.org/assets/documents/10004027enc03- DirectorofEducationreportJune2013.pdf

13 Service user and carer involvement – new standard September – December 2012: Public consultation June 2013: Proposed standard and guidance approved by the Education and Training Committee New standard of education: ‘SET 3.17 - Service users and carers must be involved in the programme.’ Implemented on a phased basis from the 2014-2015 academic year onwards Standards for prescribing will also be amended from 2015-2016 to include a standard on service user and carer involvement

14 Lay visitor involvement in our approval and monitoring activities September 2013: Education and training Committee to agree revised visitor role September – February 2013: Recruitment activities March – November 2014: Visitors added to the schedule of approval visits April – June 2014 : Training for new visitors September 2014 – April 2015 : Initial implementation June 2015: Review of first year considered by Education and Training Committee

16 Standards of proficiency – rolling review and consultation 2013 – 2014: Review of profession specific standards continues, to include: (i) Public consultations (ii) Committee / Council decision (iii) Roll-out So far, updated standards of proficiency have been published for Orthoptists, Dietitians, Arts therapists, Physiotherapists and Radiographers Education providers to evidence via annual monitoring

17 Standards of conduct, performance and ethics consultation May 2013: Completion of research undertaken by the Focus Group and key findings September 2012 – December 2013: External and internal research period April – November 2014: Professional Liaison Group April – June 2015: Consultation period January 2016: New standards published and come into force

18 Independent prescribing October 2012 – January 2013: Consultation for the new standards, 105 responses were received New standards for prescribing applied to all prescribing programmes. Draft version of the standards is available on our website: www.hcpc-uk.org/education/providers/postregistration/ November 2014: commence assessment for approval of independent prescribing programmes Annual monitoring used to assess all remaining supplementary prescribing programmes August 2013: Provisional date for legislation to be passed

19 Professional indemnity – guidance for registrants Proposed introduction of statutory requirement for registrants to have appropriate professional indemnity cover as a condition of registration The requirement is not currently extended to Social Workers in England June – August 2013: Consultation period on proposed guidance Personal responsibility, appropriate to practice Can be covered by employer arrangements Checked upon initial application and renewal

22 Education annual report 2012 The 2011-2012 academic year: Approvals 345 programmes approved during 2011-12. This includes a number of ‘pathways’ or ‘specialisms’ Annual Monitoring 85% increase in submissions over 5 years. All programmes continued to meet our SETs and no approval visits required Major change316 notifications, only 2 programmes required approval visits Concerns4 concerns received, 1 requiring further investigation A yearly overview and analysis of the key trends from the Education Department’s approval and monitoring processes Helps education providers and visitors engage with our processes by highlighting common issues that arise Download the Education annual report 2012 from our website: www.hpc-uk.org/publications/reports/index.asp?id=672

23 Education provider survey An online survey was provided for those delivering approved programmes, January – March 2013. We received 241 responses A detailed analysis report, snapshot of survey feedback and follow up actions can be found on our website: www.hcpc-uk.org/education/providers/providers/ Most common areas for feedback quantity and range of documentation requested availability of seminar places More clarity around our concerns process Statistics at a glance 91% of respondents felt processes were clearly explained following approval 98% found visitor reports ‘clear’ or ‘very clear’ 87% found the approval visit agenda easy to accommodate and negotiate
