3 My Home RF ZigBee: technology and wireless market

4 Why Radio ZigBee technology
Common world wide allowed frequency International alliance Long battery life Mesh network (secure and robustness) Feedback 2,4GHz 315/915 MHz 433/868 MHz 315/433 MHz 315/426 MHz 433 MHz 315/915 MHz 433/915 MHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and ZigBee Differences. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are generally related to link few devices ≠ ZigBee is designed to connect to several hundred (in theory up to ). Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: it is often a relationship between a server and an object (a telephone and a headset, an Internet Point and a laptop ...) ≠ ZigBee network uses objects as varied that a lamp, electric meter, a thermometer, a water meter ... And everyone can, in theory, be both server and relay information. Despite a low intrinsic range (about ten meters to a hundred cons Wi-Fi), this protocol allows, by hopping chip to travel long distances: the temperature of a room on the top floor of a building is returned to the ground floor through the ZigBee relay. This mesh also has the ability to reconfigure itself in case of a broken communication paths. The other difference from the existing protocols is very low consumption of ZigBee. Within hours, the batteries of a phone or a laptop Wi-Fi empty. In a ZigBee network, some parts of the network that does not use relays can be active without charge for months or even years. Power (which also involves the possible effects on health) is lower than Wi-Fi? Info WEB Wi-Fi: the overall power (received) is 667mW (still active mode). ZigBee: The overall power (received) is 30mW (still active mode). There is no real magic formula for achieving this result. Of course, the transmitters / receivers, design, low-energy consumption. Most importantly, the monitoring system is energy efficient and rapid recovery, few milliseconds cons sometimes the second for Bluetooth. Unlike other protocols, the system will "listen before talk" and emits only when the way (that is to say the channel) is free .. [Note: For our products every 16 seconds, the coordinator sends a radio message to find out if everything goes well (same for routers).] 4

5 Technology ZigBee: radio wave focus
Very low level of emission compared at components you use each day in your daily life Factor 100 less than microwave oven and cell phone Factor 40 less than WiFi Access Point Emission period is restricted at the minimum Products working on battery: Emission only when you push the button Wired products: Emission each 16s during 2ms to maintain network active

6 Technology ZigBee: Legrand profile
Legrand ZigBee products are not compatible with others ZigBee ones available on the market because we use “manufacturer specific profile” For this reason, we cannot use the ZigBee logo in any documents or product. We can only write ZigBeeTM

59 My Home RF ZigBee: FAQ

60 ZIGBEE panels Q1 : How does Zigbee work?
Answer: Zigbee is a universally accepted protocol that operates on a frequency that can be used anywhere in the world. Our own system uses this protocol suite. It transmits information across a 2.4ghz frequency. Q2 : Can you achieve the same look in both automation and Zigbee? Answer: Yes, you can. Q3 : Can you control any blinds or shutters? Answer: I would say yes, all that have motor drivers. Q4 : On the circular keypads, can you rotate the buttons? Answer: No, they have been designed in that way and can not be changed. Q5 : Can you label the buttons? Answer: No possibility by now

61 ZIGBEE panels Q6 : How does it work without wires?
Answer: This is the beauty of the wireless system. The products have been developed to transmit and receive RF signals. In Zigbee these signals are passed on a 2.4ghz frequency. Q7 : Are there LEDs on the wireless switches? Answer: No, the reason being is that the LEDs will continue to draw power from the battery and will reduce the life of it. In order to make it last for 5 years we couldn’t do this if the LEDs were always activated. Q8 : How can I install a Zigbee system in my house? Answer: You can replace your existing swiches with Zigbee switches. They need the 230V to send the signal to the lights. Then you program the remote commands (wireless switches) to talk to the switches that are wired. Q9 : How do I mount the wireless switches? Answer: You can mount it in anyway you wish. You can use tape or screw it to the wall. With Celiane range, the only accessories you may use is to get wall mounted installation more aesthetic. Q10 : If I have a Zigbee system and my neighbour has one, will they interfere? Answer: No, not if there is two different networks for each house. To make it sure, networks have to be created separately and at different times.

62 ZIGBEE panels Q11 : How long is the distance between devices?
Answer: In direct line of sight we can send signals up to 150m. If there are obstacles in the way such as walls it will reduce the distance. Q12 : What if the walls are brick or concrete? Answer: The distance may reduce down to 15m but a signal will still pass through. The way the system works is each wired mounted product will act as a sender-receiver, so they will keep passing the signal until it reaches the desired control. Q13 : If it’s wireless does this mean I don’t have to run cables? Answer: You still must run cables to the lights but you have the choice whether you want to run the cables to the light switches down the walls or if you want to use a controller in the ceiling. The remote switches (those not requiring cables) can be put anywhere and they will send the signal to the controls. Q 14: What are impacts of ZigBee radio Waves on human health? Answer: No right answer is possible on this topic. What we can make is to make the comparison with other radio wave products we daily use. ZigBee radio wave emission is factor 100 less than microwave oven and factor 40 less than your GSM cell phone.
