3 Why revise specifications? All awarding bodies must conform to the rules of the Regulatory Authorities. The shelf life of any specification is five years.

4 Why revise specifications? To ensure that content and assessment reflect the needs of learners and the needs of the society, economy and environment in which they live and work.

5 Why revise specifications? Our aim is to provide teachers, lecturers and tutors with top-class qualifications that are refreshingly relevant, stimulating and rewarding for their learners.

6 The process of revision Key activities have included: Identification of subject criteria in collaboration with QCA and all other UK regulatory bodies. Consultation and communication with stakeholders.

16 Task Setting Candidates are required to complete a portfolio for: –Unit 4: Design Assignment Candidates are required to complete a product and a portfolio for: –Unit 5: Design Project You choose Systems/Control or Product Design We set the tasks each year

17 Task Taking Authenticity –Tasks must be completed under informal supervision –Research: limited supervision Feedback –Monitoring progress –Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety

18 Task Marking Teachers mark the controlled assessment tasks using mark schemes that we provide Centres with more than one teaching group must carry out internal standardisation We will moderate centre marking

51 Unit 1 –T&D Core 20% of overall award. This unit is compulsory for all students. It comprises manufacturing, electronics, mechanical control systems, computer control systems, and pneumatic systems and control. Examination lasts 1 hour. Examination is available every summer. Specimen examination papers are available.

52 Unit 2 – Systems & Control This unit is optional and cannot be taken alongside Unit 3: Product Design. 20% of overall award. The Systems and Control unit comprises two elements. Students are assessed on only one of these elements: either Electronic and Microelectronic Control Systems or Mechanical and Pneumatic Control Systems. Examination lasts 1 hour. Examination is available in the summer of Y12. Specimen examination papers are available.

53 Electronic and Microelectronic Control Systems This element combines selected content from : –the legacy common core; –the legacy option Computer Systems & Control; –the legacy option Electronic Systems & Control; –a little new content. Unit 2 – Element 1

55 Unit 3 – Product Design This unit is optional and cannot be taken alongside Unit 2: Systems and Control. 20% of overall award. It comprises designing and innovation, materials, components and fabrication, manufacturing practices and social responsibility of product design and market influences. Examination lasts 1 hour. Examination is available in the summer of Y12. Specimen examination papers are available.

The majority of the curriculum objectives/personal capabilities & cross curricular skills are covered across the specification.
