Deciding that we want to impact on Public Service It is described as a key objective of the Club’s statutes It is one of the pillars defined in the project presented by the new Board (elected in October 2012): 1.Enlarge Club membership 2.Diversify & Increase activities:  Not mainly speakers  Cultural ( Kids concerts, Museums, Trips, Sports..)  Harvard ( HBS Case, Harvard Professors)  Alumni Bonding ( GNN, Annual Gala Dinner, Garden Party, Welcome graduates ) 3.Promote Public Service: 2 Board members responsible 4.Strengthen ties with Harvard University 5.Open relationships with other Clubs "ARTICLE 4. - AIMS AND ACTIVITIES The Association, which is completely independent from any other organization or institution, and motivated by purely charitable, altruistic and general interest motives, aims to: a) Promote and organize all types of cultural, educational, social and charitable events that promote interest in the growth of general human knowledge and ultimately, contribute to the improvement of interpersonal relationships, particularly in relation to educational purposes pursued by Harvard University. 7 Part of the fast-growing movement of social entrepreneurship in Spain What is Impact HUB MADRID? 8 Organization: introductory meeting of the purpose of the clinic bilateral 15/20 minutes meetings with the volunteers, which were arranged by specialization then rotation by specialist, so that each social entrepreneur could address his/her doubts on different topics CLINIC IMPACT HUB MADRID – HARVARD CLUB OF SPAIN Concept : 3 hour clinic involving alumni from different fields (business, coaching, legal, marketing, etc) and social entrepreneurs Purpose : make available the brain power and expertise of the Harvard alumni to attain the biggest impact High participation : more than 20 social entrepreneurs and 15 volunteer alumni (the Hub premises were packed!) 9 PARTICULAR EXPERIENCES Provide preliminary legal advice on which legal entity to set up for an entrepreneur wanting to collect donations and sell certain merchandising for the protection of a natural park Provide strategic and financing guidance to a student running an association using a Job Search machine at a Madrid public university Guide two entrepreneurs defining the marketing and promotional plan of a recycling company to protect the environment Advise an entrepreneur on how to approach and convince authorities to protect and expand green areas in Madrid, in order to improve environmental health Legal and tech advise to set up an online platform to denuence “moving” at a school 9 Public Service at the Harvard Club of Spain Dublin, September 2015

11 WHAT LEARNING WE TAKE AWAY AT THE CLUB Impact on Club members Harvard not only acting on self interested activities We can impact on “smaller” real life situations that concern society/people Perceived that these society members really appreciated and recognized Harvard´s: Profound knowledge Leadership Compassionateness and Generosity Impact on Harvard´s perception within Society Harvard not only perceived as “money makers”…but professional and compassionate leaders 9 Public Service at the Harvard Club of Spain Dublin, September 2015
