10 The Green Jobs Programme of the ILO 10 The Green Jobs Initiative A partnership between the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the International Labor Organization (ILO), and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC). The International Employers Organization (IEO) joined the Initiative in 2008.

11 The Green Jobs Programme of the ILO 11 The Green Jobs Initiative: Objectives To promote awareness of the linkages between development, environmental challenges, and employment; To facilitate a “just transition” that reflects the three pillars of sustainable development; To identify and respond to knowledge and data gaps on the opportunities presented by a low-carbon emissions economy; To promote dialogue, policies and measures to achieve green jobs and green workplaces; To catalyze employment and poverty alleviation within climate mitigation and adaptation programmes; and To strengthen collaboration between UNEP/ILO/IOE/ITUC, within the UN system and with other key stakeholders.

14 The Green Jobs Programme of the ILO 14 Green Jobs Vision (2010) A Shared Vision Statement...the ILO is the recognized international organization for addressing the impact of climate change, policies related to it, and other environmental challenges and opportunities for the world of work....expertise on of policies and measures which contribute to recovery from economic crisis in the short-term and... to promoting fair globalization and the development of sustainable enterprises and economies which are efficient, socially just and environmentally sound in the medium to long term.

15 The Green Jobs Programme of the ILO 15 Green Jobs Vision (2010) A Shared Vision Statement The ILO provides services to its constituents and contributes to global, regional and local initiatives for greening economies through a Global Green Jobs Programme that is based on: 1.a comprehensive knowledge base 2.tools and practical approaches 3.a strong team spanning ILO units and offices 4.the full involvement of tripartite partners 5.strategic partnerships The Green Jobs Global Programme has a set of concrete deliverables that contribute to the ILO’s global outcomes for 2010-2015 and that respond to national and regional demands and needs as expressed in DWCPs.

That approach should include capacity building of national actors and the social partners at all levels, knowledge sharing and the development of methods for anticipating environment-related transitions in the labour market and strategies for effective and socially just transitions, in particular through skills policies”
