12th EELA Tutorial for Users and Managers www.eu-eela.org E-infrastructure shared between Europe and Latin America LFC Server Installation and Configuration Yubiryn Ramírez G. ULA – Venezuela. 12th EELA Tutorial Users and System Administrators. Lima, 28.09.2007

E-infrastructure shared between Europe and Latin America 2 Lima, 12th EELA Tutorial, 24.09.2007 This presentation is based on LCG and gLite manuals and previous EELA tutorials

E-infrastructure shared between Europe and Latin America 3 Lima, 12th EELA Tutorial, 24.09.2007 Outline LCG File Catalog (LFC) motivations LFC Server Installation LFC references

E-infrastructure shared between Europe and Latin America 4 Lima, 12th EELA Tutorial, 24.09.2007 File Catalog Motivations Users and programs produce and require data Data may be stored in Grid datasets (files) –Located in Storage Elements (SEs) –Several replicas of one file in different sites –Accessible by Grid users and applications from “anywhere” –Locatable by the WMS (data requirements in JDL) –Data may be copied from/to local filesystems (WNs, UIs) to the Grid Why File Catalogs are used? –They keep track of the locations of copies (replicas) of Grid files –They provide DM tools and APIs through which users and grid services can deal with files

E-infrastructure shared between Europe and Latin America 5 Lima, 12th EELA Tutorial, 24.09.2007 LFC Server Installation

E-infrastructure shared between Europe and Latin America 6 Lima, 12th EELA Tutorial, 24.09.2007 Installation Pre-requisites Start from the base machine you installed in the INTRODUCTORY tutorial Verify that these packages are installed and properly configured: –Java SDK –Ntp daemon –CA_Gilda rpm –Install the latest version of glite-yaim –Install the middleware

E-infrastructure shared between Europe and Latin America 7 Lima, 12th EELA Tutorial, 24.09.2007 site-info.def All the configuration values to sites have to be configured in a site configuration file using key-value pairs. This file is shared among all the different gLite node types. So edit once and keep it in a safe place Create a copy of /opt/glite/yaim/examples/site-info.def template (coming from the glite-yaim-core package) to your reference directory for the installation (e.g. /root/siteinfo): – cp /opt/glite/yaim/examples/site-info.def /root/siteinfo/ site-info.def

E-infrastructure shared between Europe and Latin America 8 Lima, 12th EELA Tutorial, 24.09.2007 site-info.def Open /root/siteinfo/site-info.def file using a text editor and set the following values according to your grid environment: LFC_HOST= limaXX.ring.pucp.edu.pe LFC_DB_PASSWORD="lfc_password" (the Mysql password for the "lfc" user) LFC_CENTRAL=“ “ (list of VOs for which the LFC should be configured as a central catalogue. If you leave this empty, the LFC will be set as a local catalog)

E-infrastructure shared between Europe and Latin America 9 Lima, 12th EELA Tutorial, 24.09.2007 site-info.def LFC_LOCAL=“ “ (If you want to limit the VOs for your local catalog, add them here) MYSQL_PASSWORD=set_this_to_a_good_password (the Mysql password for the “root" user)

E-infrastructure shared between Europe and Latin America 10 Lima, 12th EELA Tutorial, 24.09.2007 Installation and Configuration apt-get install glite-yaim-core apt-get install glite-yaim-clients apt-get install glite-yaim-lfc

E-infrastructure shared between Europe and Latin America 11 Lima, 12th EELA Tutorial, 24.09.2007 Installation and Configuration Install the node /opt/glite/yaim/bin/yaim -i -s /root/siteinfo/site- info.def -m glite-LFC_mysql Configure the node /opt/glite/yaim/bin/yaim -c -s /root/siteinfo/site- info.def -n LFC_mysql

E-infrastructure shared between Europe and Latin America 12 Lima, 12th EELA Tutorial, 24.09.2007 Firewall configuration Remember to open ports 8085 and 5010 on the firewall In /etc/sysconfig/iptables add: -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state --state NEW -m multiport -p tcp --dports 8085,5010 -j ACCEPT service iptables restart

E-infrastructure shared between Europe and Latin America 13 Lima, 12th EELA Tutorial, 24.09.2007 LFC Server testing Log into a gLite User Interface (limaXX.ring.pucp.edu.pe) Set the hostname of the LFC catalog you installed: export LFC_HOST=limaXX.ring.pucp.edu.pe Be sure to have a valid a voms proxy: voms-proxy-info Try to create a subdirectory with: lfc-mkdir /grid/eela/lima Give a look inside the /grid/eela folder with: lfc-ls -l /grid/eela

E-infrastructure shared between Europe and Latin America 14 Lima, 12th EELA Tutorial, 24.09.2007 Check that LCG_GFAL_INFOSYS variable is correctly pointing to your BDII server: export LCG_GFAL_INFOSYS=limaXX.ring.pucp.edu.pe:2170 Use lcg-infosites to discover which SEs are available for your VO: lcg-infosites --vo eela se LFC Server testing (II)

E-infrastructure shared between Europe and Latin America 15 Lima, 12th EELA Tutorial, 24.09.2007 Choose a SE and upload a file with: lcg-cr -v --vo gilda -d -l lfn:/grid/gilda/bogota/test.jdl file://$PWD/hostname.jdlfile://$PWD/hostname.jdl Check if the file was correctly registered into the catalog and where it was stored: lfc-ls -l /grid/eela/lima lcg-lr --vo eela lfn:/grid/gilda/lima/test.jdl LFC Server testing (III)
