10 10 Challenge the future 2. How to prepare your classes Aim of the course understand a spoken text without help being able to use the words actively (in conversations) How to achieve that aim? 1. Use book + CD-Rom/online version/app 2. Learn the text step by step first with all help, and gradually less help 4, 5, 6, 7 times ….. 1 text takes 2 - 3 hours 3. The total course load is 8-10 hours a week!

19 19 Challenge the future Classes mainly devoted to conversation (not much grammar explanation) only in Dutch, from day 1 with conversations on topics in the text knowledge of the text is essential you learn also from listening to other students are fun and interesting do participate in the conversation, don’t wait for your turn! 3. 20 20 Challenge the future Listening tests Listening test on each text, before or after the lesson Bring your own headphones! Login: tbm-langXXX, password: Welkom01 No book, phones, paper etc. allowed - it is an official test and part of your grade – If you use a book, phone, paper etc., your account will be blocked for the rest of the course! Minimum result of 70% necessary Less then 70% = stop, do it again next time 3. Course organisation

21 21 Challenge the future Other tests 3 Gap fill tests: Like the ones in the book (but with different gaps) -During classes (first 10 minutes) -20 gaps from 4 texts (randomly selected) 2 Writing assignments -Answering questions about the topic of the text (not about the text itself) -Make new simple Dutch sentences with the words that you have learned -During the time for the computer test (17.45-19.30) in the computer room -No book, telephone, paper etc. allowed -Make sure your listening test is closed -If you have the listening test open or something on your table, you will get a “fail” 3. Course organisation Final grade for the entire course Average of 2 grades: 1.Oral skills shown in class 2.Weighted average of attendance (20%), result of 3 written tests (30%), 2 writing assignments (30%) and the number of listening tests taken (20%) In case of an insufficient grade for speaking in class: additional speaking test In case of an insufficient grade for attendance + tests: additional paper & pencil test The final test is ___ text with blanks. Course timetable was sent to you by email If not: you are on the waiting list. A place in a course in the next quarter is garanteed. You have to sit the introduction test on Wednesday April 20 th - Failing the test: the secretary will remove your name from the list - Passing the test: the secretary will send you the timetable. If you pass the course you will get 3 Graduate School credits. If you cannot make it after all, please send an email a.s.a.p. to the secretary. PhD + PDeng: If you don’t finish the course your department will get an invoice from the graduate school! Group 2

For students with surnames starting with F – J: 18.10 hrs. For students with surnames starting with K – O: 18.30 hrs. For students with surnames starting with P – T: 18.50 hrs. If result for both texts is 80% or more? Check if your number/name is in the announcement Enroll via Blackboard from 11:00 onwards (wm1115TU 2015-2016, Q4) Enroll in the group that suits you best - first come, first served If all groups are full? Put your name on the waiting list - place in summer/Q1 guaranteed Prepare chapters 1-5 before April 28 th in case a place becomes available If Score <80 %? No enrolment allowed. Options: 1.Do self-study and sit the final test of the course + do speaking test  send an email to delftsemethode@tudelft.nl (after May 9 th )delftsemethode@tudelft.nl 2.Full enrolment procedure in the next quarter: pre-enroll in the organization for the introduction lesson + introduction test again (open after May 9 th ). 30 30 Challenge the future Information for BSc/MSc/Exchange students If you enroll you are supposed to finish the course. Only enroll if you have enough time (8-10 hours a week in total)! If you drop out nevertheless: Notify your teacher and the secretary You cannot take the course again later – you can do self-study and sit the final test and do the speaking test You may get a poor result in Osiris - which you can improve by doing the final test + speaking test 4.
