3. STAAR Mathematics 3 rd, 4 th and 5 th grade Students will have 4 hours to complete the assessment, Multiple choice and griddable test items will be on the assessment. Anticipate multi-step questions rather than simple one-step, basic recall questions. Questions will be mostly in the form of word problems, graphs and tables.

4. READING

5. STAAR Reading 3 rd, 4 th and 5 th grade Students will have 4 hours to complete the assessment. Reading passages and multiple choice questions will be on the assessment. Anticipate questions where they ask to “summarize” or give the “main idea”

6. Testing Day Format Four hour time limit Breaks count towards the 4 hours Breakfast at 7:15-7:55am Bathroom break 7:55-8:05am STAAR testing begins promptly at 8:30am

7. Testing Day Format Teachers will post time remaining on the board to remind students of the time limit. Please do not send students with snacks. If you send a student with lunch, make sure that it does not have to be microwaved. Students can request to go to bathroom on their own, but time counts against 4 hours. Students will read books when they have completed their assessment.

8. Testing Days For Students March 30 - 4 th grade Writing Day 1 March 31- 4 th grade Writing Day 2 April 21, 2015 – 3 rd and 4 th Grade Math April 22, 2015 – 3 rd and 4 th Grade Reading

9. How Can Parents Help? Make sure that students read at least 30 minutes daily! Read with your student! Make sure that your child completes their homework and they show their work/use their strategies on all assignments. Encourage using Think Through Math, R.M.City and IStation websites daily. Communicate with your child’s teacher! Make sure they attend tutoring (if required).
