2. Ad’s In the 50’s Ad’s in the 50’s showed all the new latest things. Kind of like commercials today! This helped boost consumerism. Because it showed everyone the newest latest thing. This made people want to go and by them!

3. The American Dream The American dream in the 50’s was to own a house and have a family. In this picture you see a women and and her son. This was the American Dream in the 50’s. To own a house, with a yard and have children. This was able to happened thanks to suburbans built outside of towns.

4. Communism. Many people were against communism. Here you see people holding signs saying “Better Dead than Red.” This meant that the people holding the signs would rather be dead then have Communism spread to the country they lived in.

5. Eisenhower. Dwight Eisenhower was the president of the US during the time communism was spreading to all these counties. Eisenhower, or most of the time referred to as “Ike”, talked to a leader of a country to help stop this spread of Communism.

6. Elvis. Elvis played a role in the 50’s as well. Elvis was one of the famous people in 1950. He become famous by his singing. After one time on tv… he moved his hips. Ever since then they only filmed him from the waist up!

7. Ethel and Julius Rosenberg. This couple was accused of spying on the US for the Soviets. They were proved guilty and got death by electric chair.

8. Joseph McCarthy Joseph McCarthy worked for the government. With the spread of communism McCarthy started to think that their might have been spies/communist in parts of the government. He also thought that their might have been these spy's/ communists in the army.

9. Little Richard. Little Richard was a musician in the 1950’s. He also was famous for signing. Rock ‘n’ Roll.

10. Mao Zedong. Mao Zedong was the leader of China. He was the leader of China during the spread of communism. He supported communism.

11. NATO NATO stood for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. This organization was a military alliance against communism.

12. Men’s Clothing In the 1950’s men dressed in suits. They always wore well dressed clothing. And sometimes wore hats/carry brief cases

13. Men’s Hair This is how men wore their hair in the 50’s/ It was always well parted and combed to one side.

14. Spies in the 50’s Spies in the 50’s had many ways to get their information. This was one was…a camera disgusted as a gum. Is this lady was spying there's a high chance that she is from s communist country. Most of the time that country would be Soviet Union.

15. Women. Women often stayed home in the 1950’s. This lady is working in her house which Is what women in the 50’s normally did. When the men went to work there was no car. So, women stayed home, took care of the kids, and took care of the house.

16. People on Strike. People went on strike in the 50’s. Because they didn’t get the pay raise from their jobs. Like they were suppose to.

17. The TV was invented. The TV was invented in the 50’s. It was a way to get information about presidential candidates. Also, they watched shows like I Love Lucy, and Lassie just to name a few. It was also a way to hear about newer products.

18. United Nations. United Nations was a peacekeeping body. Started after WWII to help keep peace among the country's,

19. William Levitt This was the guy who took the idea of the conveyer belt and applied it to houses. It helped create Levittown.

20. Women’s Clothing Women always dressed nice. They wore dresses. They also wore hats most of the time.
