God’s Leadership Boot Camp Part IV Num. 26:63-65, Num. 27:15-23, Num. 34:13-29 & Deu. 1:34-38

Lessons in Leadership When a godly leader has a burden that becomes too great, God provides him or her with help We should never worship a man, no matter how godly he is If followers appear to worship us, we must make certain to redirect their worship A godly leader must be able to pick godly subordinates

Lessons in Leadership A godly leader will be forced to either stand up for God, or to back down There will come a time when a godly leader will have to stand and trust in his God: ◦ When he may be in a distinct minority; ◦ Even against his own people; ◦ Even when facing physical danger If you compromise on spiritual issues or values, you will lose God’s protection

The Reward of Obedient Faithfulness Moses takes a new census Moses had taken a census before the first opportunity the people had to enter into the land [1:1 – 2:33] The only ones alive now are those who were under twenty when the spies first reported, together with Moses, Joshua and Caleb. Was the nation more in tune with God or less spiritual

Lessons in Leadership Standing strong in obedience and faith, brings godly blessings Consider the testimony of Caleb [Jos. 14:6-14] God may not act immediately, but God will not tolerate the rebellion of his men and women against Himself

The Commissioning of Joshua Moses recognizes the need for leadership Moses had been training Joshua for most of his life Did Moses ask God to install Joshua as the next leader? Moses understood that the nation needed God’s man (not a godly man) to assume that position

Lessons in Leadership One who is a godly leader, will be elevated by God, in God’s preplanned time. A godly leader learns from his or her mistakes God wants a man or a woman who is filled with the Spirit of the living God Moses made it clear to the people that Joshua had authority now, and would be Moses’ successor. By displaying confidence in Joshua before the people, he gave confidence to Joshua and settled the peoples concerns.

The Right Kind of Decision Once they took the land, it was going to have to be divided between the tribes This division would last forever The right kind of person needed to be selected to be guiding those decisions If unfairness or favoritism was involved, there would be problems perpetually

Lessons in Leadership Godly leaders can be trusted to do what is right and equitable As a result godly leaders are put in the position where they can do just that A godly leader will do as God did: ◦ Determine what the plan should be ◦ Communicate that plan clearly to the leaders of the people ◦ Assign specific followers their specific tasks ◦ And make sure everyone understands their various responsibilities

Encouraging Our Leaders Israel is now preparing to enter the land for a second time Moses rehearses Israel’s history for the last 40 years And then he, as the senior and experienced leader of this people, instructs them that they must encourage their leaders Moses more than anyone knows of the need for this

Lessons in Leadership Godly leaders need to be encouraged

Concluding Thoughts Joshua became the leader who completed the task that Moses was unable to complete What did Moses give to Joshua? ◦ He gave of his time ◦ He gave his insight ◦ He provided him with a learning environment ◦ He allowed him opportunities to prove himself ◦ He instilled in him a strong belief in his future Because Moses was able to reproduce his leadership in Joshua, Moses’ dream became a reality, even though he was not there to personally witness it.
