3 BONES What does the word “bones” bring to mind?

6 Our bones are hard, but they are definitely NOT dry. Bones are alive and made of a mix of hard materials and living cells. The hard part of the bone is made mostly of calcium (found in milk products) and phosphorous. These minerals give the bones their strength.

10 Cartilage helps to protect bones from grinding against one another. Fact: You can also find cartilage in your ear.

12 The inside of a bone does NOT add strength, but it does make new blood cells and produces germ-fighting white blood cells.
