Good Morning Introduction and information Assessment update Expectations for remainder of year Greater good

Kentucky Parks Ossana Wolff Big Bone Lick State Park

CHEESE Experience: Part 1 argumentation process without data set In grade band groups of 3: TLs engage in the research question authentically to construct an explanation for sun to cheese, rotate to another table to experience argumentation process, and then refine explanation with original group (the process is shortened to save time). Have a brief reflective discussion. Debrief process, including roles and function of various parts of the process, as well as considering where and how the experience provides evidence of student learning (consider 5 Strategies and why/how that helps with evidence).

CHEESE Experience: Part 2 Each grade band team: decide how the research question “fits” within your grade band. Perhaps LS2.A, LS2.B (LS1.C for K-2), any other sub DCI?, what practices and CCC are useful for developing understanding at your grade band/level? If necessary, modify the research question for your grade in order to better meet the intent of NGSS – it should still be connected to the big idea. Using the Appendices & Framework as resources, define what a “proficient” explanation would look like for your grade. Create the proficient column for a scoring guide. (Consider noting below proficient and above characteristics when they come easily to you. The intent is to focus on “proficient” but we want to be efficient in our work.) Share with other same grade band teams to refine research question, scoring guide, and any other learning. Consider how the argumentation process for this research question would “look” at your grade band. Where would you use it instructionally? What special considerations would you want to note? If time, share the results with the whole group to get a glimpse of the continuum.

BEST VALUE Read the article individually Make notes as you read Note the one phrase you that spoke strongest to you How will this change your thinking/overall classroom decision making

What is a phenomena ????????????????????

A Phenomena is? an observable fact or event a fact or event of scientific interest susceptible to scientific description and explanation

Phenomena/Problems Brainstorm individually any Problems/ phenomena that you could have your students explore within the PE’s of your grade: Example: Why did moss grow on one rock and not on the others? Why is the sky blue? Place each idea on a different post it note on the appropriate grade level poster.
