3 NanoRacks, LLC Michael D. Johnson (832) 573-7424 Page No. 3 Cube Sat Genesis CubeSat standard was invented by Jordi Puig-Suari of Cal Poly and Prof. Bob Twiggs of Stanford. As of today, 18 CubeSats have been placed into obit. Many CubeSats were destroyed by launch vehicle failures. 1 PU CubeSat is 10x10x10 cm @ 1kg. Many variations exist: 2PU, 3PU, 6 pack, etc. Cube Lab History Bob Twiggs CubeSats generally fly as secondary payloads. Primary payloads don’t like to share their ride. Launch opportunities are hard to find.

Johnson (832) 573-7424 Page No. 4 CubeLab Genesis The 2005 NASA Authorization Act designated the U.S segment of the ISS as a national laboratory and directed NASA to develop a plan to "increase the utilization of the ISS by other Federal entities and the private sector…" Early in 2008 the NanoRacks team recognized that many CubeSat objectives could be accomplished inside the International Space Station. The NanoRacks system was in development over 2008- 2009. Six variants led to the final seventh version flight hardware. On September 9, 2009, the NanoRacks LLC Director, Jeffrey Manber, signed Space Act Agreement SAA- SOMD-6355 with NASA for operation of the NanoRacks System aboard the ISS National Laboratory. 44 working days after the SAA was signed NanoRacks, LLC delivered flight hardware for offgas testing at MSFC. NanoRacks LLC has since partnered with the non-profit enterprise Kentucky Space to provide the NanoRacks Research System -- a multipurpose research facility that allows experimenters access to CubeSat use in micro- gravity & a power interface with an EXPRESS Rack.NanoRacks LLCKentucky Space Cube Lab History (cont’d)

Each Cube Lab Frame holds up to 16 Cube Lab Modules. Cube Lab Frame provides power, USB data connectivity and forced air cooling to the Cube Lab Modules. Cube Lab Frame breaks down to stow in a single CTB. 1PU Cube Lab Modules conform to the CubeSat standard. Cube Lab Modules can be stowed in any size CTB. Cube Lab Modules can be potentially returned in a Soyuz. NanoRacks, LLC assists Payload Integrators with design to minimize impact to the space transportation system and the ISS. CubeLab strives to maximize with minimum resources. Cube Lab standardizes interfaces to minimize cost and schedule. Within a few missions to ISS the Cube Lab manifest will have exceeded the total CubeSat manifest over six years. Cube Lab Concept Cube Lab Frame with 16 Cube Lab Modules EXPRESS Rack Locker
