Class Notes 6: Complex Inheritance
3
I. Incomplete Dominance A.When neither trait is dominant. B.Result is a blend of both traits. C.Ex: white (rr) x red(RR) = pink red(RR) = pink(Rr)
4
II. Codominance A.When both traits are dominant B.Result is that both traits show Ex: brown x white = brown spotted
5
III. Multiple Alleles A.When there are more than two alleles of each trait B.Ex: Rabbit fur color has four alleles for one trait
6
IV. Polygenic Traits A.When more than one gene is in charge, so inheritance rules are very complex. B.Ex: Eye color and skin color
7
V. Sex-linked trait A.When a gene for a trait is located on the X or Y chromosome. Ex: Colorblindness is on the X chromosome. *Why are males more likely to be colorblind?
