2 Nuclear Warfare Learning Objective: To explore the use of nuclear weapons in modern warfare. I can define the terms nuclear warfare and nuclear proliferation I can evaluate the arguments for and against nuclear weapons.

5 Nuclear Factoids... The heat generated by a nuclear explosion can reach about 9,000 degrees, which is hotter than the surface of the Sun. The thermal component accounts for about 1/3rd of a nuclear weapons power. It’s hot enough to permanently burn an object’s shadow onto a surface behind it.

6 Nuclear Factoids... It takes as little as 35 pounds of enriched Uranium, and as little as 9 pounds of enriched Plutonium to construct a nuclear weapon. Luckily, the facilities required to enrich raw Uranium are expensive, and are larger than 5 football fields.5 football fields

12 Disarmament vs. Deterrent Write down arguments for each, including Christian quotes and examples. Disarmament = the belief that all countries should destroy all of their nuclear weapons. Deterrent = the more countries that have nuclear weapons, the more countries will be put off using them.

13 The Queen’s Speech Imagine a Nuclear Bomb has been dropped on London. The Queen has been taken to a safe location. What advice/encouragement will she give? Remember she is the head of the Church of England, what Christian teachings might she use? Draft a speech that the Queen is going to give to the nation in the aftermath of this nuclear attack.
