The First Farmers

The very first people were Nomads,

this mean they wanderer from place to place, looking

for food and sleeping in tents and caves

But around 5,000 BC, farming began in

the middle east in an area call the Fertile Crescent

The first crops were wild wheat and barley,

they used it to make bread

At the same time people started to tame animals.

The first animal to be domesticated was the dog,

then the goat, sheep, pigs, cattle and horse

used for meat, milk, wool and to carry things

Once people knew how to farm, they no longer need

to move around, they began to settle down in villages

They learn new skills as weaving and pottering

they started to trade with other communities.

Slowly, small villages grew into towns

The oldest town found is Jericho

Jericho grew rich and for protection

built a massive stone wall around the town

Catal Huyuc was the largest of the early towns,

more than 6000 people lived there.
