1 CORE COMPETENCIES CORE COMPETENCIES ARE SETS OF INTELLECTUAL, PERSONAL, AND SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL PROFICIENCIES THAT ALL STUDENTS NEED TO DEVELOP IN ORDER TO ENGAGE IN DEEP LEARNING AND LIFE- LONG LEARNING.

2 GOALS To be aware of what the six Core Competencies are. To know where the Core Competencies fit in the new curricular framework including the continuity and cross-curricular nature of them. To be able to explain why the Core Competencies are part of the new curricular framework.

3 INCLUSIVE: every student has a profile CROSS-CURRICULAR: evident in all curricular areas STRENGTH-BASED: each competency continuum emphasizes the concept of expanding and growing STUDENT-CENTERED: based on actual samples from BC students and grounded in “I” statements DESCRIPTIVE AND PROGRESSIVE: profiles of progression from early childhood through adult expertise BC CORE COMPETENCIES
