The New Deal and Franklin D. Roosevelt In 1932, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who is also known as FDR, was elected President of the United States. He had a plan to help fix the problems with the U.S. economy. He called that plan the New Deal.

As part of the New Deal: The U.S. Government started programs that gave unemployed people jobs. As part of those projects, people built many public buildings and roads. Other New Deal programs helped raise the price of farmers’ crops and the animals they sold.

There are many issues that are important in the 2012 Presidential Campaign. An issue is something that concerns citizens.

For example, the federal government considers an individual a senior citizen at the age of 65. Senior citizens are concerned about staying healthy. An important issue for them in this election will be healthcare. Healthcare includes doctor bills, hospital bills, and medicine.

The candidates will participate in debates when they will express their ideas and positions on various important issues.

Debates are face to face discussions between candidates running for office. The candidates share their ideas and explain haw they agree or disagree with the other candidates. A candidate’s position is the opinion he has on an issue.

Issues such as a Balanced Budget, Healthcare, the Economy, and the Jobless Rate are very important to the American people.

A Balanced Budget occurs when total income equals total spending at the end of the fiscal year.

Economy refers to anything having to do with the financial system.

MONEY How much our nation spends……. How much it’s citizens earn…… How many of it’s citizens are without jobs…… These are some of the BIG ISSUES that are being debated by the candidates!

During the 2012 Presidential Election Campaign, each candidate will use much rhetoric to convince Americans that he is the person for the job. Rhetoric is language used in a way that influences the way people think about an issue.

????? On which issues are the candidates in substantial agreement?

On which issues are the candidates in disagreement?

Which citizens are most affected by each issue?
