2 StartUp Kansas Launched 8/06 as a statewide supplemental capital source NetWork Kansas funding partners apply on behalf of the for-profit business Funding partners: CDC’s, Kansas Main Street, Revolving Loan Funds, Microloans, Foundations Requirements: 40% match from NetWork Kansas partner, max loan or grant of $45,000 with like match money Economic Resources “NetWork Kansas”

3 StartUp Kansas Example: Entrepreneur $10,000; Bank $40,000; Need $50,000; a minimum of 40% ($20,000) must come from the partner $1.3M funded to 56 businesses $363K approved but not yet funded On average, StartUp Kansas makes up 12% of total loan package Philosophy: High risk, fill a void, and be at the end of the entrepreneur’s capital food chain Economic Resources “NetWork Kansas”

4 Entrepreneurship (E) Community A partnership between NetWork Kansas and rural communities that creates a local StartUp KS-like fund: Year 1 -maximum $125,000 in credits which nets $158,333. Max of $225,000 in credits ($300,000) in first 5 years. Process must include all of the same requirements that a StartUp Kansas loan requires (40% match, for profit business, etc.) Each community defines their own Entrepreneurship (E) Leadership Team (+130 community members) The E-Team sets up a Financial Review Board that reviews applications and approves loans and/or grants to local entrepreneurs and businesses (+75 community members) A NetWork Kansas partner serves as an administrative support organization that closes the loans, collects payments, and sends them to NetWork Kansas Empowering Communities to Create an Entrepreneurial Environment “NetWork Kansas”

5 Entrepreneurship (E) Community 12 E-Communities (City, Multiple Cities, County). 5 out of 6 pilot E-Communities have funded at least 1 deal and 2 of this year’s E-Communities have already funded 1 deal. Over 20 applications reviewed and 12 have been approved in just over one year. $277K in loans approved and $49,500 in grants approved. Currently, 12 E-Communities have $2.33M of funds available. We’re tracking business composition, entity type, industry, ownership gender, community population, and jobs Early Statistics “NetWork Kansas”
