Overview (Implementation at Selatar Country Club) We worked with Selatar Country Club to conserve energy by increasing the temperature of the air-conditioners at Selatar from 20°C to 24°C Subsequently, we conducted surveys to collate the responses of the members regarding the change in temperature Total number of survey respondent=106 The survey consisted of a total of 6 questions surveying them on the comfort level of the air- conditioners after the change has been implemented

Results – Question1

Analysis of result – Question1 Majority of the members (65%) felt that the new temperature was comfortable and only 6% felt that the new temperature was too warm. This may mean that the 4°C difference from before could have made the temperature colder than necessary. 29% of the member felt that even after the increase in temperature, the air-conditioning was still too cold. However, upon further investigation, the cold temperatures were mostly applicable to some of the facilities rooms.

Results – Question3

Analysis of results – Question3 Members visit the country clubs at different timings, but mostly in the mornings. Since the members visiting timings are pretty spaced out, it makes it hard for us to regulate the air- conditioning temperatures based on members visits timings. However, we can raise the temperatures during the night(2%), late morning(9%) and late afternoon(9%) when there are lesser members so as to reduce the amount of energy wasted.

Results – Question4

Analysis of results – Question4 Most members visits to the country club are restricted by their schedule since most of them visits only when time allows (42%) From our visits, we found out that there are more people during the weekends and public holidays as compared to normal weekdays. This would explain the crowd during the afternoons and mornings since many of them come at this timing for their activities, like golf, swimming and yoga classes.

Results – Question5(a)

Results – Question5(b)

Analysis of results – Question5(b) 19% of the respondents had objections towards us raising the temperature because most (61%) felt that the current temperature is already too warm for comfort, while the rest (39%) felt that since the current temperature is just nice and raising the temperature would make it uncomfortable. This shows that there is still a significant percentage of the people who put their comfort as the top priority.

Results – Question5(b)

Analysis of results – Question5(b) Majority (81%) of the respondents had no objections towards us furthering raising the temperature. Nearly half of them (43%) were supportive since it saves the environment while the rest (57%) agreed because the current temperature was too cold for them. Although there is a substantial amount of people that are aware of the detrimental effects that air- conditioning has on the environment, most of them are still more concerned about their comfort.

Conclusion From our survey, we can conclude 24°C is an acceptable temperature for most people. Although the previous temperature of 20°C may provide more comfort, but is might also have been too cold for most. The new temperature also conserves energy and saves money for the country club while at the same time not compromising on the comfort level. However, while most people are aware of the environmental problems caused by the air- conditioners, their personal comfort appears to overpower other factors. To further improve our project, we can continue to work with Selatar to have the air-conditioning regulated according to crowd at different times

Additional Information (from members) Efficient energy saving scheme is important Moderating the flow of air-conditioning Some selected rooms are still too cold (Bowling Alley, Reading Room, TV Room, Arcade)
