2 Who were some South Carolina Abolitionists and what did they believe? Sarah Grimke believed that the slaves should be free. And Sarah’s little sister Angelina, also believed that the slaves should be free. John Brown wanted to stop slavery in the United States.

3 How did Abolitionists feel about slavery vs. those who supported states rights? They did not like that people had slaves and thought it was mean and cruel.

6 In the United States the slave trade was officially abolished in 1807, but the smuggling of slaves continued until the Civil War. As cotton plantations developed in the South, the demand for slaves increased. The Southern states thus supported slavery. In contrast, by 1804 all of the states north of Maryland had abolished slavery. The North became the center of the abolitionist movement in the United States.
