Real Numbers Rational Numbers -Can be written as a fraction. -In decimal form, either terminates or repeats Examples: Integers -The whole numbers and their opposites {…, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3,…} Whole Numbers -Zero and the natural numbers {0, 1, 2, 3, …} Natural Numbers -Also known as the counting numbers {1, 2, 3, …} Irrational Numbers -Cannot be written as a fraction -In decimal form, non-terminating and non-repeating Examples:

Other Classifications of Numbers Prime – Only factors are 1 and itself. For example, 2, 3, 17, 31, etc. Composite – Has other factors then 1 and itself. For example, 6, 14, 25, etc. Even – Divisible by 2. For example, 2, 4, 6, 8,… Odd – Not divisible by 2. For example, 1, 3, 5, 7,…

5
Zero and Negative Exponents Any number raised to the zero power equals 1. For example, 5 0 = 1 Numbers raised to negative exponents get “flipped”. For example,
6
Fractional Exponents Fractional exponents represent the power to raise the number to, over the root to take. For example,
