1 Major Academic Plan (MAP) Why study chemistry? Chemistry is often referred to as the central science because of the way that it brings together mathematics, physics and computer science with biology, medicine, environmental science, forensic science, and earth science. It can involve either basic or applied studies in the broad areas of physical, organic, analytical, inorganic, or biochemistry. Understanding chemistry is fundamental to understanding the physical world around us. Why Professional Option? This program of study is approved by the American Chemistry Society, and it is recommended for those who plan to become professional chemists. It provides a strong background for either graduate school or a career in industry. Other Degree Options BS – Biochemistry option BS – Forensic Chemistry option BS – Pre-Medicine, Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Veterinary option BS – Standard option BAE – Secondary Education option BA – General option Department Chair Dr. Robin McRae SCI 206 Cheney, WA 99004 509.359.2798 rmcrae@ewu.edu Department Assistant Margaret Cox SCI 206 Cheney, WA 99004 509.359.2447 mcox@ewu.edu Sample Careers Professional Chemist Ph.D. in Chemistry Associate in Arts & Sciences BS in Chemistry, Professional Option (109-111credits) Department of Chemistry / Biochemistry College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
