Where are you wearing ? By: Celeste Lara Ms. Baggett English 3

Where am I wearing ? I am wearing El Salvador, because it is where my North Face jacket was made.

Where is your favorite article of clothing made ? My favorite article of clothing which is the North Face are made in El Salvador.

What are the things that The North Face companies don’t want us to know ? The North Face companies don’t want us to know about how the women that are sewing the $165 North Face jackets that we wear cannot even afford milk for their children. These women are even forced to work overtime, and also have experienced sexual harassment, they have also had to work in 100 degree temperatures. They have had to face harsh and humiliating treatment.

Where does The North Face stand in terms of social responsibility ? In the terms of social responsibility The North face is trying to do some good. In May 26, 2004 — The North Face signed an agreement with Global Giving to fund and promote community-based development projects overseas. Through Global Giving, The North Face will be able to identify and fund social and economic development projects in the regions where these expeditions take place.

How much do these woman make ? These woman work themselves out to make us our North Face jackets. We pay up to $165 for a jacket and up to $250 for a North Face coat, when these woman only make $.94 per jacket or coat sold. What if they stop selling the North Face jackets and coats ? How are these woman going to take care of their children ?

What do these woman have to deal with ? The women who are working in the Embroidery department stitching the logo on North Face jackets are routinely molested by their supervisor. The woman who work in the factories have to face harsh and abusive treatment. Their supervisors constantly shout at the women to work faster, also calling them names. For example they be calling them dogs, animals, and dummies. They also threaten to cut their bonuses or lay them off, even pregnant women face these harsh treatments and some are often brought to tears.

What are the conditions like for these factory workers ? These workers work dripping in their own sweat because the factory lacks of good ventilation, despite even if its a100 degrees. They would not turn on the air conditioner for these women who are working so hard.
