4 Preparation Activity: Summarize ELA standards Materials: Name the Standards Worksheet Group: Join with people who have the same shape card Go to common core website: http://www.corestandards.org/ http://www.corestandards.org/ Look at the standards for your assigned area (Reading, Writing, Speaking/Listening, Language) Write a summary of each standard in 1-5 words Each group shares their summaries with the other groups

13 Common Core Writing Informational: 6.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content. 6.2a Introduce a topic; organize ideas, concepts, and information, using strategies such as definition, classification, comparison/contrast, and cause/effect; include formatting (e.g., headings), graphics (e.g., charts, tables), and multimedia when useful to aiding comprehension.

18 Preparation Activity: Summarize Math Standards Shifts: Focus and Coherence Materials: 3x5 index cards / Chart Paper Group: Pair based on grade level Go to common core website: http://www.corestandards.org/ http://www.corestandards.org/ Read your grade level math standards Write a summary of each standard in 1-5 words on an index card

19 Preparation Activity: Summarize Math Standards Group Activity: Start with 7th grade standards on chart paper Each grade level adds their standards cards to form lines of topic that progress through each grade level. Discuss similarities and differences as topics move from K to 6th

20 Math Differentiation Acting out numbers

21 Differentiation Activity: Socratic Circle 1s sit in center and discuss 2s sit outside, listen and give feedback Discuss: What challenges do you have with differentiation in your classroom – either students who are lower or higher than the rest of the class. Other teachers brainstorm strategies to differentiate for this type of challenge.
