2. In the Beginning Honus was born to Peter and Katheryn Wagner on February 24, 1874. He dropped out of school at 12 to help his family.

3. Major League Teams Honus played for the Louisville colonels for two years. He then proceeded to play the rest of his career for the Pittsburgh Priates. After his playing career was finished he went on to coach the Pirates for 18 years.

4. Career Averages Honus Wagner averaged a very impressive average of.327 throughout his 20 year career. He had 3,415 hits which is 7 th all-time in the MLB He also batted in 1,732 runs.

5. Family Life He married his wife, Bessie Baine Smith, on the 30 th of December in 1916. He had three daughters, however Elva the first died upon birth. His other two daughters were Betty Wagner and Virginia Wagner.

6. Awards He won a World Series in 1909 Over his career he compiled 8 NL Batting titles. His number was retired The most impressive of all his awards is being a member of the All-Century and All-Time Team.

7. Death Honus lived to the age of 81 before passing away on December 6, 1955. He will forever be known as the greatest short stop of all time and possibly the greatest player of all time.
