2 Journal 4: Life In your journal, please respond to a passage from Thoreau’s “Where I Lived and What I Lived for” in 300 words or more.

3 “I went to the woods to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life.”

4 Directions for Writing After reflecting upon Thoreau’s musings, what do you want out of life? Regardless of the material or career aspirations you have, direct your response to what you want out of life itself by focusing on its philosophical aspects. This may seem challenging, but dig deep and you may be surprised at what you write.
