Tracker MICE Note The full version of Tracker MICE note released –http://www.hep.ph.ic.ac.uk/~longkr/MICE/Meetings/Tr acker-volume/ Design / Construction of the first prototype of SciFi tracker is described The result from cosmic-ray test at D0 test-stand is reported The reconstruction tools are explained WBS

Talks on the scifi tracker Parallel tracker session on Wed. is focused on the KEK beam test scheduled in May and later. Time-of-flight counters and ACC is newly developed, and tested at KEK-PS secondary beam line Status of the tracker / waveguide fabrication and electronics/DAQ work is reported Simulation work on the beam test has been started On the second day, design and preparation for the full tracker is reviewed. In the plenary session on Fri., Malcolm showed a excellent progress on emittance measurement with the tracker Efforts on the KEK beam test is summarized in the following slides.

Preparation for KEK beam test SciFi tracker (G. Barber) Waveguide (M. Yoshida) Electronics (P. Rubinov) Cryostat (R. Rucinski) DAQ (M. Yoshida) Simulation (K. Yonehara)

G.Barber KEK Test Beam Update, Berkeley 9 Feb 2005 Prototype Layout All of the components that make the space frame assemblies have been or are in the process of being manufactured. There is still detail design to do to complete the assembly a list of outstanding items is on the next slide

G.Barber KEK Test Beam Update, Berkeley 9 Feb 2005 Station Progress The 4 th station is now under construction. The layout has a total of 30 connectors, 10 per view. Each connector has 22 holes instead of the previous 18 but all of these are not used in every connector. All 3 planes are glued and the ‘connectorisation’ is under way and will be finished by the end of this week. It will then undergo extensive checking before being potted.

G.Barber KEK Test Beam Update, Berkeley 9 Feb 2005 Space Frame Components All of the components that make the space frame assemblies have been or are in the process of being manufactured. Tooling The jigs that align the space frames are all manufactured. One further development?

G.Barber KEK Test Beam Update, Berkeley 9 Feb 200527 KEK Test Beam – Tracker Progress To do list Final detail for the outer casing including the brackets to fix the assembly during transport and into the magnet. The modification that will allow the original prototype stations to be married to the new space frames A new patch panel to be made or the existing one modified. The space frames to be assembled Polishing of the 4 th station

VLPC Cryo Status Cryo-Cooler Version

Preliminary fit up - good

Status Summary  Real assembly should start this week.  Many miscellaneous parts ordered and most here. (o- rings, bolts, cryo grease, fittings, copper strips)  Compressor for Cryo cooler wired up. Extending control cables.  Run Cryo cooler only – week of 2/21?  Cool cassettes – week of 2/28 or later?  Ship in March

 First AFEII prototype is now on the cryostat and taking data.  Next 4 slides show the AFEI problems that AFEII is designed to solve: u SVX saturation. u SVX tick to tick ped variation. u DISCR to SVX data cross talk. AFEII prototypes

LVSB Board VME LVDS SERDES Buffer (Serializer-Deserializer)

VME LVDS SERDES Buffer (VLSB)  The D0/MICE VME64 LVDS SERDES Buffer (D0 VLSB) is a VME64 single wide 6U module SERDES (SERializer- DESerializer)  It can be used for Read out and testing the AFEII boards. The module is a custom LVDS  SERDES Buffer with 4 LVDS inputs channels and can be operated stand-alone with minimal additional hardware.  The design allows system expansion to multiple modules.  A D0 VLSB module can receive/generate trigger signals over two Lemo connectors on the module front panel.  A normal test system configuration consist of a VME 64 subrack where slot 1 is occupied by a VME subrack controller and the D0 VLSB cards will occupy one or more of the remaining slots.

VME LVDS SERDES Buffer (VLSB)  The Boards (6) are now complete and ready for test and integration into the MICE DAQ system (KEK and final system if we choose to do so)

Simulation for KEK beam test K. Yonehara IIT

Present status A field map for spectrometer was included. The spectrometer was tilted. Beam tracks were extracted. All above items were presented in the last MICE collaboration meeting at RAL.

Actions towards finalisation of tracker design To be reviewed in the KEK tracker meeting in 29-31 March Mechanical design –Detailed design of the support mechanism inside bore –Magnetic field monitoring –He-filled bore –diffuser –Detailed layout inside/ outside Cylinder / VLPC position / external fiber run –etc… Electronics/DAQ –Triggering / Event numbering scheme –Triggering by tracker hit?

Summary SciFi tracker group is aiming to test the prototype at KEK to check the fabrication procedure and the performance. Great efforts on the preparation is on-going. All the equipment will be delivered to KEK in March Tracker workshop will be held at KEK on 29-31 of March, and hope to initiate the operation of the system.
